Where It’s Made: Inside the Studio

How and where each piece is made.

Every piece begins at the bench. It’s where ideas are worked through, materials are shaped, and time is spent refining the details that make a piece feel right.

I work from a shared jewellery studio at Vanilla Ink in the East End of Glasgow. It’s a practical, hands-on environment centred around making, where each piece is developed slowly and carefully from start to finish.

THE BENCH
My bench is where everything comes together. It holds the tools I use every day — saw frames, files, burnishers, polishing tools — and it’s where each piece is shaped, assembled, and finished by hand.

A lot of the process is repetitive. Filing edges, refining forms, applying gold, finishing surfaces. These small actions are repeated over time, allowing the piece to develop gradually and with care.

LEARNING THE CRAFT
I studied Silversmithing and Jewellery at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 2023. This is where I learned the foundations of working with metal — from forming and soldering to finishing and surface techniques.

More than anything, it taught me how to approach making with patience and attention to detail, and how to take an idea and work through it physically at the bench.

FROM INKUBATOR TO INDEPENDANT PRACTICE
After graduating, I was awarded a scholarship to the INKubator programme at Vanilla Ink. This gave me the opportunity to refine both my goldsmithing and the business side of my practice, helping me establish my way of working.

I later continued as a Jeweller in Residence, supporting the workshop while developing my own work.

I now work independently from a bench within the shared studio. Being part of this environment continues to shape my practice — it’s a space built around making, where skills are developed over time and knowledge is shared between makers.

Everything is made by hand at the bench, from start to finish. The materials, the tools, and the time spent working them all come together in that one place.
